Traveling on a motorcycle with a child in Mallorca can be one of the most memorable experiences if you prepare properly. Not every mother will approve of such a questionable event as a joint motorcycle trip with a little son or daughter. Of course, it would be ideal to spare the nerves of loved ones and abandon the idea of transporting a child on a motorcycle.
But if this desire is mutual, including the child's, having the necessary set of arguments, knowledge of traffic rules, and all the necessary protective equipment, you can always explain your position logically and, finding agreement, try to safely take the child for a ride on the motorcycle.

Let’s start with a not-so-pleasant fact. But not mentioning it would be morally wrong. According to reports from the Spanish Department of Transport, in 2023, there were 112 accidents involving motorcyclists in Mallorca, 18 of which involved child passengers. Why does this happen? You’ve probably guessed it yourself. The most common cause of accidents is speeding. Therefore, the first and most important rule is: don’t speed on the roads!
Children over the age of 12 can travel on a motorcycle as passengers. For children under 12, special child seats and protective equipment are required. It needs to be selected very carefully so that the clothing fits snugly on the child and does not hang loosely.
Statistics show that helmets reduce the risk of head injuries by as much as 69%. Therefore, always use helmets, protective jackets, and gloves for both yourself and your child.
Make pit stops every 45-60 minutes so your child can rest and stretch. It is much harder for a child to endure the road than for an adult. Therefore, physical exercises at gas stations will be very beneficial.
Plan your route, avoiding difficult sections and bad weather conditions. Use apps like AccuWeather to track weather conditions.

John’s Story of Traveling with His Daughter by Motorcycle
John, UK
Last year, I decided to take my daughter Emily on our first motorcycle trip to Mallorca. She was 10 years old at the time, and it was our first experience riding a motorcycle together. When we arrived in Mallorca, I rented a motorcycle at TRIUMPH RENTAL MALLORCA with a comfortable passenger seat and luggage mounts.
I am obsessed with safety, so even though I chose the rental company very carefully, I checked the condition of the motorcycle: brakes, tires, and lights. I consider this a simple but very important step that should not be skipped.
We started our journey from the northern part of the island, heading towards the southern beaches. I prepared the route sheet in advance, still at home: I read all the forums, and articles on the internet. During the trip itself, I used the Rover app to analyze the road conditions.
One of our first stops was at Playa de Muro Beach. This beach is perfect for children: soft sand, a gentle entry into the water, and small waves. It’s hard to convey Emily’s emotions in words! She was thrilled with the clear water and beautiful view! We spent about 2 hours here. Honestly, we didn’t even want to leave.
On the way to our next destination, we stopped at a small café Sa Foradada. I can’t say anything special about the cuisine. It was filling, and tasty, but without a “wow” effect. Emily remembered the homemade lemonade the most, and I enjoyed the seafood.
On the way back, we visited Alcudia Old Town – the old town of Alcudia. This place is simply a fairy tale! Narrow streets, ancient buildings, and souvenir shops are everywhere. We wandered through the old streets, visited every shop, and chose souvenirs for our loved ones. The atmosphere there is just magical, you just want to stay longer and soak in all these historic buildings and cozy corners. Everything is imbued with the spirit of "Tranquila."
On the road, we encountered a little rain. But with my pedantry, I had anticipated the possibility of bad weather in advance and brought a couple of raincoats. So if you are wondering whether to take raincoats – take them without a doubt. They won’t take up much space, but they will save you a lot in case of bad weather.
In some places on the road, there was a lot of gravel and sand. Especially dangerous, in my opinion, are turns and narrow sections of the road.
In Mallorca, traffic is right-sided, so you need to overtake from right to left. This may be unusual, so it is important not to forget to use turn signals and keep a distance. Safety first! Fortunately, our trip went smoothly. But just in case, I always had a charged phone and contact details for emergency services: police – 112, ambulance – 061, fire department – 080.
Even experienced motorcyclists do not recommend riding with a young child as a passenger due to the dangers involved.
However, if you still can't resist, and the child keeps insisting, ride the motorcycle as safely as possible. Accelerate and brake smoothly, let those in a hurry pass, be as predictable as possible for other road users, and instill a sensible approach to motorcycle riding in your child, and perhaps, years later, you will be riding together in the same direction... on two motorcycles...
